You’ll have heard of mediums – people who talk to others who have passed to the other side.

Hundreds of people – men and women – are mediums. They all practise what’s called mediumship – the art of contacting the spirits of dead people and putting them in touch with the living.

 

Mediumship enables people, the living and the dead, to talk to each other, so to speak, with the medium acting as the go-between.

 

Mediums have the ability to chat with spirits, picking up messages from them and passing them on to the living.

 

Most mediums use mental mediumship to communicate with spirits, practising clairvoyance, clairsentience and clairaudience. Clairvoyance is where a medium sees what a spirit is communicating; in clairsentience a medium senses what the spirit is saying; and in clairaudience, a medium is actually hearing what the spirit is communicating.

 

There is also physical mediumship where something happens during a medium’s chat with a spirit or at a séance. Physical phenomena can include smells, raps or knocks, levitations and apparitions.
